What Homeowners Should Prepare For When Hiring an Electrical Contractor

With our business based out of Bonita Springs, we often see people buy a home only to discover during renovations that their beautiful, beachfront home in Bonita Springs needs to be rewired or that their electrical is outdated and not up to code. If you are about to embark on an electrical project, there are certain things that you should prepare for as a homeowner, before, during, and after the electrical project. Read on to learn a few things that can make the process go a bit more smoothly for you!

1: Clean Up the Area

Before work begins on your house and before electricians show up, it’s best to clean up the area where they will be working. The last thing you should want to do is make their job more difficult as they move furniture, paintings, or outdoor patio furniture out of the way! Let the electricians focus on getting your electrical project finished in a timely manner.

2: Make Plans

Rewiring a house is not particularly difficult, but it does take time. We’ve worked on projects that have taken a few hours to a few days! It’s always best to consult with your local electrician before work starts and ask how long your specific project will take so that you can make plans if need be.

If you hire electricians during summer hours, bear in mind that you do not want to be stuck at home in the heat! We always tell our clients to escape the heat and come back when the power has been fully restored in your home.

3: Empty Your Refrigerator

When you’re rewiring a home in Bonita Springs or anywhere else in Florida and it’s a full-day project, you want to make sure that you empty out your fridge to prevent potential spoilage. If you have items in your fridge that will go bad, place them in a cooler with ice or take those precious items over to the neighbors! We will always give our clients a heads-up if they need to prepare to relocate their food.

4: Make Room for FPL

You may need to have service temporarily disconnected for certain electrical projects and this is done through FPL. We call and schedule your appointment with FPL several weeks in advance so that you don’t need to worry about contacting an FPL representative. We will handle everything for you!

What you do need to prepare for is on the day of your electrical project, an FPL representative will need access to your property to temporarily disconnect your service as well as reconnect your service when the project has been completed.

The best and easiest completed projects are ones that are properly planned beforehand, something we always do here at Empowered Global. We care about our customers and want to make sure they know what to expect when they hire us!
