Before the Hurricane
Generator Service Check
Before a storm hits, conducting a thorough generator precheck is essential to ensure the system will function reliably when needed. Items to check are battery, parts, switches, air filter, oil and coolant, and remote control systems. This also includes running a live systems test by shutting down power to ensure the generator starts up and performs as expected.
A quarterly system check is included in the platinum and titanium generator maintenance package. Learn More
Outside Surrounding Area Check
Inspect the exterior where the generator is stationed. Is it free of debris? Are the connections and wires adequately secured? Is the generator on a platform that can withstand flooding? These are a few items to consider before a storm comes. Generator storm emergency prep is critical for extended power outages.
Confirm Fuel Delivery
Ensure you have a supply of propane for your generator as well as oil needed to operate equipment. To ensure proper operation, maintain your generator oil level between the minimum and maximum marks on the dipstick.
You should inspect the oil every 8-24 hours of use and refill the oil only when the generator is turned off to prevent overflow. You should also change your oil every 100 hours of operation.
Kohlerās manual advises checking air-cooled units every 8 hours and liquid-cooled units every 24 hours. For complete care, including generator storm services, contact our maintenance team at Empowered Global.
After the Hurricane
Post-Storm Inspection
After a storm, it is recommended you perform a check on your generator and its equipment to ensure it is in good working condition. This helps to identify any damage or issues that may need possible attention from your generator repair and maintenance company.
Area Inspection
Check Equipment: Look at your generator as well as its connected equipment to see that everything is intact and operational. Make sure there are no dents, cracks, leaks, or anything that could lead to future hazards.
Assess Your Surroundings: Examine the area around your generator for debris or damage from the impactful storm. This can help prevent problems and provide proper ventilation for your generator.
Schedule Your Consultation

2024 Tropical Hurricane Storm Names
The alphabetical order means that earlier names, such as Alberto through Gordon, have a decent chance of being used during the season.
These names will be used for hurricanes and tropical storms that form in the Atlantic Basin, which includes the Atlantic Ocean, the Caribbean Sea, and the Gulf of Mexico āĀ most likely affecting North, South, and Central America.
In most seasons, the later names on the list are unused. However, the 2024 Atlantic hurricane season is expected to be unusually active, with as many as 25 named storms.
